Jay, that was quite the accomplishment you just did. In high school I ran a 20 mile race as a junior and could hardly walk for about 2 weeks once we were done and all the stiff and sore muscles showed up. Good job !! and love listening to your interviews on utube, keep up the good work.

I worked at Newmont Gold at Gold Quarry pit which in the 90's was the largest open mining operation in North America. I was a dispatcher for the whole operation which was completely computerized even back then. The 994 cat loader operator had a minute and 30 seconds to load a 190 ton cat trk. If it showed on the computer printout they were slower than that, they would tell the operator he was going to be switched out. The reason Barrick and Newmont combined operations on the Carlin Trend was between the laybacks between Newmonts North Area pit and the Betze pit of Barrick there was about 7 million ounces of gold neither could get too without the other cooperating. It was located in the laybacks on each of the pits, so they mined right up to each boundary of property and the gold just sat there for a long time. They tried to get it worked out but it just never seemed to work. I got laid off in Jan 98 when gold was down to $230 an ounce. that was there break-even price at the time. Ended up moving from Elko NV back to our ranch about 1 hr north of Billings MT. Anyway I thought you might find that info interesting. It was a great place to work at too !!
